The patient, E. G., a man, 65 years old, had been suffering from dyspepsia since 1923. His chief complaint was gaseous distension of abdomen which had no definite relation to meals, but was often relieved by taking milk or alkalis. The abdominal discomfort quite often produced sleepless nights. There was seldom any pain and radiological investigation had not revealed any ulcer in the stomach or duodenum.
